The firm

David Overell, operating as a sole practitioner, established the firm in 1984. David previously worked for a short period in audit with Touche Ross, in business advisory work with two smaller practices and was employed as a manager for two years with Arthur Andersen in their "owner/operator businesses" section.

In 2010 Gavin Weller became an equity owner in Overells, bringing to the firm over 20 years experience in the profession. Gavin started out in the profession with Ernst & Young where he worked his way up through their Tax/Business Advisory Services Section and then moved into their Business Development Section as a consultant. Since then he has had extensive experience helping clients with their taxation, accounting and business needs and being part of the management team of accountancy practices.

In 2016 Tony became a partner in the business, bringing large amounts of experience in business advisory and accounting.

Tony comes from over 20 years experience as a CPA accountant with experience in both Australia and London. Tony started his career working at the Commonwealth Bank as an examiner before becoming an Accountant at McGlynn & McGlynn. Since then he has had extensive experience coaching clients with their business strategies, targets, management plans, cashflow forecasting and business structure.

Overells operates in the tax and business advisory area, dealing with small and medium enterprise (SME) businesses and high net wealth family groups.

The firm focuses on providing services that will make a difference to its clients - to be much more than reactionary advisers. These incorporate a range of business advisory solutions and mentoring our clients in their business and financial needs. We pride ourselves on our availability, personal service, initiative, lack of jargon and holistic approach.

Overells has some significant clients, including two who have been included on the Business Review Weekly (BRW) lists of the 100 fastest growing private companies in Australia.

We look to constantly introduce innovations to keep us and our clients at the leading edge. These include:

  • Developing a "paperless office" system in 1996, which achieved national recognition in this field, including recognition from the Banksia environmental awards and adoption by more than 50 accounting practices and other businesses from all over Australia
  • Creating a unique cadetship system that see university undergraduates joining us for an agreed four year period (partly as students and partly after graduation), under a structured development program, and then being "released" into the world to further enhance their development
