Suited to Success

Our Partner Gavin Weller and his wife Jenny are thrilled to be assisting Suited to Success establish their first pop-up store on Q level in the Myer Centre on the Queen Street Mall, by Jenny volunteering her time full time for three months.  Suited to Success is a not for profit organisation that relies on the generosity of private, community and corporate donors, and raises much needed funds through the sale of donated clothing and accessories that are excess to requirements or are casual or partywear.  Suited to Success helps disadvantaged unemployed people in SE Queensland facing barriers to gain and retain employment. They offer a range of programs designed to build self-esteem and self-confidence and provide basic job search and work skills as well as workwear and styling advice.

"Steps to Work" is a holistic extended program providing one-on-one tailored  support and a series of interactive workshops. Topics covered include job preparation and interview techniques, effective communication, personal presentation, technology, getting ready for work and networking.  There is a specific youth program for 15 to 24 year olds, where unemployment rates are staggeringly more than double the 6% rate across Queensland.

The Styling Boutiques for men and women offer personalised sessions  providing outfits for clients so that they look good on the outside as well as feeling more confident when they go for interview. When the client is successful in gaining a job they are invited to return for a capsule wardrobe to mix and match with their interview outfit.  These are provided free to the client including shoes, accessories and toiletries.

The Career Hub helps with writing resumes and application letters to address job selection criteria. Volunteer HR specialists gives practical advice and coaching on interview technique and offer tips and tricks of dealing with nerves and answering common interview questions.

All clients are invited to join the monthly Development Network workshops to network with potential employers and corporate supporters.  Regular guest speakers who are experts in their field deliver practical workshops covering a range of professional and personal development topics.

Around a thousand people each year are helped by Suited to Success on their journey to gain a job and find a meaningful career pathway.

If you'd like to assist, donations of pre-loved clean corporate wear of all shapes and sizes, and particularly  men's shoes and belts, are gratefully accepted and deeply appreciated.   These can be dropped at Suited Success at 47 Anderson St, Fortitude Valley (9 am – 3 pm), or to their pop-up shop on level Q Myer Centre behind Customer Service ( 10 am – 4 pm).

Better still, come and visit the Suited to Success pop-up store when you are next in the CBD, buy something new for your wardrobe and donate something to make some room at home!
